Mario Balotelli set to return against Manchester United
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that Mario Balotelli could return against Manchester United on 12 February, 2011.
Balotelli, who suffered a knee injury after scoring a hat trick against Aston Villa in January 2011, was expected to be sidelined for rest of the 2010-11 season as he was scheduled to undergo a surgery.
However, the young Italian will not feature in Manchester City’s next Premier League match against Birmingham City and has been ruled out of their home match against West Bromwich Albion as well.
But the Italian manager of Manchester City claims that Balotelli would be available for February’s crucial derby match against Manchester United.
Roberto Mancini said, “I hope everything is okay with Mario. I think he could be ready for the derby.”
Mario Balotelli was not part of the Manchester City squad which hardly managed to squeeze a draw against a League One side Notts County thanks to Edin Dzeko who scored the late equaliser.
It was Dzeko’s first goal for Manchester City and his teammate Gareth Barry hailed the contribution that won the Citizens a replay against Paul Ince’s men.
Gareth Barry added that it was an important goal from the Bosnian striker and that he expects Dzeko to score more goals in order to gain confidence.
“The longer a striker goes without a goal the more it can affect him. Strikers thrive on confidence, so I hope this settles him down. And it can be the first of many because Edin can be a big star for Manchester City,” said Barry.
The English midfielder continued that Edin Dzeko is one of the best strikers in the world and his ratio of goals to games is outstanding.
Along with Manchester United former player Carlos Tevez, both Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko are expected to start at Old Trafford.
