World Cup 2022 bid: offer to relocate Asian Football Confederation HQ to Doha

Documents seen by Telegraph Sport reveal that Qatar offered to relocate the headquarters of the Asian Football Confederation to Doha. The AFC, whose president is Qatari Fifa ex-co member Mohamed Bin Hammam, is based in Kuala Lumpur.

In a series of letters, annexed to the proposal, the State of Qatar offered a number of benefits, including:
(1) New headquarters for the AFC “on Doha’s sweeping Corniche” with rent paid by the Qatar state, and a grant of land to build a new headquarters to its specifications.
(2) A complex of 30 villas in the Dafna area for staff accommodation incorporating a health club and swimming pool, and units in a residential tower block, all with rent paid by Qatar.
(3) A plane to transport the AFC president on 25 trips a year to any country.
(4) A 50 per cent discount for European employees on Qatar Airways and a dedicated visa office at the AFC.
